SEVENTEEN

After what felt like a lifetime—but was probably closer to fifteen minutes—we arrived at the home of the wordweavers.

The absolute peace of the place never failed to amaze me. I saw the pink of the sun as it brightened the horizon. At the sight of the new dawn, I actually let out a sigh of relief.

The wordweavers led us to a large room with two large beds.

“I need to see my hellhound,” I said. “He’s been poisoned.”

The wordweaver who led us to the room nodded her head, but didn’t budge. I looked at Monty.

“Does she understand English?” I continued under my breath. “I’m not going to take a nap until I know how he is.”

“Your bondmate is being healed,” the wordweaver said. “As is your other companion. Aria requests that you rest before meeting.”

“Rest?” I asked, upset. “Did you not hear what I said? My hellhound, my bondmate, has been poisoned. I need to see him—now.”

“You will see him soon,” she said. “First, you must rest.”

I made to push my way past her when she whispered something in my ear. My legs suddenly felt heavier and my eyes started closing against my will.

“What…what did you do?” I asked, turning to her and slurring my words. “I need to…need to go…Peaches.”

The room became black after that.
